On May 26, 1971, a press conference was held at Spotswood Country Club to announce the joint venture in the development of a new resort to be called Massanutten. By the summer of 1972, there were six slopes cleared. In 1973, the final touches were put on the outdoor swimming pool and two tennis courts in the Rockwood Park area of the Kettle. The ski area opened on February 10, 1973, after five nights of snowmaking. Today, Massanutten continues to thrive with a mixture of owners, overnight guests, groups, and daytrippers.
We offer rental options for a quick two-night getaway or a weeklong vacation. Accommodations are located in our mountain resort area or in the lower valley of Woodstone Meadows.
A true Blue Ridge experience, our mountain accommodations offer year-round breathtaking views and of course, many opportunities to observe the natural wildlife here on the resort. Virginia Ski Resort Welcomes Back Three-Day Festival Featuring Torchlight Parade, Fireworks, Live Music and More
Massanutten Resort, a premier four-season resort located in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, announced its 8th annual Snow Moon Fest will return February 28 – March 2, 2025. The 2025 schedule of events will include outdoor adventures and winter fun including a torchlight parade, fireworks, live music, DJs, brunch, 4K on the Fairway, a doughNUT eating contest and more. Guests can also take advantage of the exclusive Snow Moon Fest Lodging Package and other specials, including a VIP package add-on as well as golf, WaterPark and lift ticket discounts.

Massanutten Resort, a premier, four-season resort located in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, announced the opening dates for its 2024-25 winter season, starting with Snow Tubing on December 7 and an exclusive preview for ski season passholders on December 13. The public will be welcomed to the slopes starting December 14, marking the official opening of ski season. With freshly made snow, a reimagined terrain park, and a host of exciting winter events ahead, Massanutten promises an unforgettable experience for all snow sports enthusiasts.

Massanutten Resort is excited to announce the return of its annual Summer Jam Festival taking place on Wednesday, July 3, from 5-10 PM. The festival will feature live music, kids' activities, beer & wine, food trucks, and fireworks to cap off the evening. All proceeds will benefit the Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals.

Donation to Enhance Safety in Community.
Great Eastern Resort Corporation, owner of Massanutten Resort in Rockingham County, Virginia near Harrisonburg, today announced the approval of a land donation to Rockingham County for the construction and operation of a year-round fire, rescue and emergency management station at Massanutten Resort. The resort does not anticipate the construction of the station for several years, and there is no immediate obligation for the county to proceed with its development.
"Massanutten Resort is committed to contributing to the safety of our community,” says Steve Krohn, president and chief operating officer of Great Eastern Resort Corporation. “This new station will enhance emergency response capabilities and help to create a safer environment for everyone in the area.
